I’ve tried many liquid lipsticks throughout my life and none of them compare to the NARS Powermatte Lip Pigments. I have very dry lips so most liquid lipsticks are so drying and uncomfortable that I cannot wear them for more than an hour. This newest formula from NARS, however, is the most comfortable and long-lasting liquid lipstick on the market. At $26 a tube, it’s worth every penny.
My favorite shade is Slow Ride, which is described as a “soft brown pink” on Sephora’s website, which I’d say is fairly accurate. It’s definitely not “soft” though; the dry-down is much darker than I expected (almost to a brick red), but because my lips are pretty darkly pigmented, I don’t mind. I actually prefer darker colors and Slow Ride is the perfect fall/winter color. It has that dusty rosiness that I’m obsessed with!
Texture: The formula is a very thin, liquid-y consistency that feels very lightweight on the lips. The NARS website describes the formula as an “ink”, which I find very accurate. It dries down very quickly to a complete matte but it’s so comfortable that you forget you have anything on your lips at all.
Application: The doe-foot applicator provides exceptional precision when applying, though it is very stiff, which can make it very unforgiving when applying without a lip liner. (As I mentioned before, the quick dry-down of the formula also contributes to its relatively less-forgiving application.) I typically don’t use a lip liner (because who has time for that); it requires a steadier hand and more time, but it is possible. NARS also sells lip liners that match each of these shades, so be sure to check that out too!
The lip pigment glides on beautifully and is so saturated with color that all you really need is one swipe to achieve perfect coverage. Be warned, however, that if you get some on the inner part of the lips, the watery formula will transfer to your teeth, but it is relatively easy to remove.
Wear-Time: This is where the lip pigment shines! This is one of the longest-lasting formulas I have ever tried; I’ve gotten almost 12 hours of wear-time several times, and even after two meals and a coffee, it looks amazing with minimal fading or feathering. The lip pigment definitely isn’t transfer-proof, I honestly don’t mind because the pigment stains your lips so well that a little bit of transfer doesn’t make a difference. The first time I wore it, I was apprehensive about how much came off, but when I glanced in the mirror, it looked exactly the same. I cannot rave about this liquid lipstick enough!
Though the application can be a little tricky, the NARS Powermatte Lip Pigment is an excellent comfortable and long-lasting formula that comes in a variety of shades for any type of look. I have my eye on adding some more shades to my collection, namely Don’t Stop and London Calling!
