Whenever I go for natural everyday makeup looks, I like to reach for a lip gloss or sheer lipstick instead of a richly pigmented liquid lipstick. I first heard about these new lipsticks from Tati on YouTube and the colors looked so gorgeous on her that I immediately added these to my shopping cart!
According to L’Oréal’s website, these lipsticks provide a glossy and hydrating finish with high color payoff. It doesn’t say anything about a sheerer color, but based on the swatches, it definitely isn’t meant to be an opaque color.
I purchased three of the sixteen available shades: Glossy Fawn, Dazzling Doe, and Varnished Rosewood. Glossy Fawn is a peachy coral, Dazzling Doe is a nude beige, and Varnished Rosewood is a light berry.
Price: $9.99 for 0.1 oz of product, which is on the higher end for drugstore lipstick.
Packaging: The packaging is plastic but gorgeous with a clear cap, silver bullet and golden accent. They have a nice weight to them and look great on my vanity. The lipstick itself has a flat slanted top for easy application.
Texture: These lipsticks feel extremely moisturizing and comfortable on the lips, like an extremely hydrating balm. They basically melt onto your lips and glide on easily without feeling oily, sticky, or tacky. I’m in love with the texture!
Application: This is where the lipsticks really disappointed me. From the swatches, I was expecting a sheer wash of color on my lips (similar to a tinted balm or lip gloss). However, once applied, every single color had an unflattering milky undertone that also accentuated any chapped parts of my lips.
It doesn’t look so terrible on camera, but in person (especially in direct natural light), you can really see the whitish tint and it’s just not a good look.
Wear-Time: I tested out Varnished Rosewood because it was the least offensive and I wore it while I was running around doing errands. For a glossy non-liquid lipstick, these do last a good four to five hours with minimal drinking and no eating. It fades naturally and reapplies easily. My lips felt nourished and hydrated the entire time, but you definitely have to reapply throughout the day.
I really wanted to love these lipsticks because the formula is great, the colors are so pretty, and the packaging is to-die-for, but I could not get over the milky undertone. Maybe it’s because I have more pigmented lips, but it’s a very unflattering undertone. If these had been a truly sheer lipstick, I would have given them a 10/10, but the issue with the color is hard for me to overlook. I considered purchasing some of the darker shades to test out, but the fact that all three had the milky undertone convinced me otherwise. I’ll probably end up just giving these lipsticks away.
Have you tried these lipsticks yet?
